Poetry Workshops at the Broome County Arts Council

The Broome County Arts Council will be hosting Poetry Workshops, facilitated by Dr. Joshua Lewis, starting April 4th at 81 State Street, 5th Floor, Binghamton. The goal of this Poetry Workshop Series is to foster a greater sense of community among poets and writers while developing skills to become more accomplished as a poet.

Forms of free verse in poetry – Wednesday, April 5th 6-8pm

Fixed poetic forms – Wednesday, May 3rd 6-8pm

 Developing one’s own unique poetic voice – Wednesday, May 31st 6-8pm

The Poetry Workshops are free for Broome Arts Council Members and Students, and for the General Public, $10 each or all three workshops for $25. Pre-registration is required by calling 607.723.4620 or information@broomearts.org

Dr. Joshua Lewis obtained his PhD in English from Binghamton University in 2012, and he has been a part of the local community since 2004. His poetry has appeared in SUNY Broome Community College’s literary magazine, Breaking Ground, along with other literary journals such as the Patterson Literary Review and the Edison Literary Review. He also worked as a poetry editor for the Broome Review, and has plans to submit a poetry manuscript entitled The Rain Songs for publication this spring.

  1. Thank you for your interest! This page is currently set up for grant review. If this workshop becomes available some time next year (August of 2016), the call for participants will go out as soon as the series is confirmed.
